Helikon Park, Keszthely
Helikon Park in Keszthely is considered the largest green area in the town. Its huge, centuries-old trees and well-kept promenade make it a pleasant place for walks. The domed Helikon Monument, erected in 1921 in the middle of the main promenade, has become a symbol of the town.
With the financial support of the Festetics, the famous literary festivities were organised, bringing together intellectuals from Transdanubia, mainly writers. The participants contributed to the landscaping of the park by planting memorial trees. Unfortunately, these trees were cut down in the early 1900s and replaced by linden trees in 1920 by the town's inhabitants.
The park is dominated by deciduous trees, including chestnuts. Their trunk diameter averages 50-70 cm and their height exceeds 13 metres.
